As promised, here’s Part Two of my Fashion Week San Diego posts. These photos were from Thursday, October 3 – the first night of runway shows!
The designers who showcased that night included: C Venti, CG by Cynthia, Collections of Kathryn Elizabeth, Isabel Vianey, Laced with B, Mahogany Blues and Second Star Designs. Also, Andre Soriano, Cecilia Aragon, and Dexter Simmons from Rihanna’s show Styled To Rock topped off the evening.
Unfortunately, my sister and I had class until about 6 p.m. that day, so we missed the show’s opening. But once we got to the venue, we were automatically sucked into the chaos that is FWSD!
Since we weren’t assigned to a designer that night, my sister and I assisted the other dressers and mainly monitored the Funky Monkey shoes. Funky Monkey is the official shoe sponsor of this year’s FWSD.
It was really cool to see everything up close and feel the excitement backstage. The hair and makeup artists did touch-ups on the models until the very last second – everything had to be perfect! Their strive for perfection was contagious; I lost count of how many times I tugged on a blouse a little to the left, a little to the right, and back again.
In the fashion world, runway shows are for collections of the upcoming season, not the current one. So although the show was in the fall, the collections were for spring/summer, which explains all the vibrant colors. Above are some pretty designs from CG by Cynthia.
Isabel Vianey made these gorgeous jackets and pantsuits. I love the sophistication of the classic pieces but also how their colors and patterns easily transform them into glammed up day wear or eye-catching outfits for a night on the town.
This swimwear collection was designed by Mahogany Blues. My favorite piece is the hooded one; it’s so retro and different.
The feathered pieces were from Dexter, and the black leather and latex designs were by Andre and Cecilia. My favorite from Dexter’s collection was the finale look (pictured below) – it was so fantasy!
However, Andre and Cecilia’s finale dress was also impressive. All the female models wore these really cool headpieces and there was a giant “headpiece” for the last look. It was unlike anything I had seen before!
Before heading home, I had to have my own little moment on the runway. Is my outfit couture or what? ;)
Check back next Friday for Part Three!
