Cyra Velasquez is an aspiring multimedia professional. As a journalism major with an emphasis in media studies, Cyra’s interests range from social media, to print, to digital and all that’s in between.
Cyra has contributed to San Diego State University media as a host, producer, webmaster and social media director for KCR College Radio. She produced and hosted a two-hour weekly live show called “The Midday Mash-Up”. She also managed KCR’s social media pages including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Furthermore, Cyra produced web content for KCRlive.com, including features like Sunday Spotlight, Throwback Thursday, KCR On the Scene and event promos for KCR’s partner, Red Bull Music Academy.
Outside of SDSU, Cyra was a programming intern for “The AJ Show” at Energy 103.7 during her 2013 spring semester. She assisted with sound board operation, monitored the live programming schedule and wrote weekly blog posts on the station’s website. She has also appeared as a guest contributor for several on-air segments. By the end of May, Cyra became the first intern to be hired since “The AJ Show” team moved to Energy 103.7.
With groundwork in radio and digital media and experience in reporting, Cyra hopes to continue challenging herself to grow as a multimedia journalist. In a world where traditional journalism is witnessing rapid change, Cyra is enthusiastic to be a part of the new era and hopes to someday be well known as a media entrepreneur.
Cyra currently resides in San Diego, Calif., but is willing to relocate for work.
